My friend smokes a lot, i don’t know how many a day, but she gets her cigarettes from her sister. I want to help her quit, and she wants to quit too but she’s addicted, obviously, Are there any products out there that can help you quit smoking permanently when your under 18?

hehe, my friend threatened to not talk to me anymore. lol that worked. she basically stole my cigarettes and too them away.
maybe you should talk to her sister. tell her maybe its best to stop giving her underage sister cigarettes.
does she do sports? or sing in a choir? because I also quit so i could do well in sports. but do tell her that you’re worried about her.
then again, i wasn’t THAT addicted to a cigarette a day. but it is hard to get her to want to try to quit. and once she does, always be there for her and support her.

im psychologically addicted to marijuana. since its psychological, does that mean meditation can be helpful in treating my addiction? i started meditating for 20 minutes everyday and noticed that later on in the day, i wouldnt be plagued with thoughts of smoking weed like i usually do. i had more self-control. so if meditation can help addictions, is there a scientific explanation for why it helps? (such as what goes on in the brain or mind during meditation)

Meditation, by itself, does not provide sufficient treatment for most addictions. However, it provides an important element of treatment.

People develop addictive behaviors as a means of avoiding reality. All of us do this to some extent, so you are not alone in your struggle.

Meditation practice simply brings practitioners into contact with reality. When we sit quietly in meditation, we begin to notice the ongoing stream of feelings, thoughts and sensations. We notice that they are never-ending and that they are always changing.

Over time, meditation practice can help us see that these feelings, thoughts and sensations have no “self-nature” – that is, they are simply passing phenomena, like clouds. When this occurs, our feelings, thoughts and sensations no longer have control over us. Welcome to reality!

However, most people struggle to develop this kind of stable meditation practice. That’s why it’s important to combine your meditation practice with other treatment methods. These include:

- Participation in a 12-step program such as Narcotics Anonymous. These are very powerful treatment methodologies, provided that one takes them seriously.

- Skilled psychotherapy can provide ongoing support in uncovering some of the issues that drive the impulse toward usage.

- A meditation group, such as a Zen center, can help stabilize one’s meditation practice and provide a community of people who are committed to staying in reality (“committed” is the key word).

- Develop social relationships with people who do not use marijuana or alcohol. It can be hard to make new friends but it’s essential if you wish to live with clarity.
