Smoking during pregnancy.. (k2 like products, and ciggarettes)?
Question by : Smoking during pregnancy.. (k2 like products, and ciggarettes)?
IF YOU ARE GOING TO JUST BASH ON ME AND CALL ME A BAD MOTHER THEN DONT EVEN BOTHER RESPONDING TO THIS POST. Anyways, I have just found out that i am 4 Months pregnant. Up until now I have been smoking k2 like products. I will not smoke it anymore because of the pregnancy. But I am nervous about the previous time that I have been using. I am wondering if anyone has had any complications because of using stuff like this. If you dont know anything about the k2 like products, it consists of a synthetic Marijuana chemical called jwh-018 that has not yet been tested on humans. I am very scared that my past using will effect my child. I WILL NOT BE USING IT ANYMORE. However, I am finding it extremly hard to quit smoking ciggarettes. I have cut back a lot, but I would like a few tips on how to quit smoking ciggarettes during pregnancy. I have always thought women who smoked during pregnancy were nasty and or selfish. But now that I am in the position I have realized how hard it is to quit. My dr recomended me to not quit cold turkey because it can put me through a lot more stress, and make me have withdrawels which is really bad for a baby….. Can anyone help?!?!?!?!?

Concerning the K2 — because these products are so new, little is known about their effects on the fetus. Still, if you have stopped using it, things should be fine.
For tobacco — nicotine is, as I’m sure you know, VERY VERY addictive — far more so than most illicit drugs. Your doctor may be able to recommend a cessation class; ideally one just for pregnant women, but if those aren’t available, any class should help you.
If, depsite your best efforts, you aren’t able to quit completely, just do the best that YOU can. Every cigarette you DON’T smoke benefits your baby. (If you are still smoking when baby is born, be sure that you never smoke around baby or in the house, and wash your hands after smoking. Also, if at all possible, breastfeed your baby. While some nicotine gets into the milk, the benefits of breastfeeding still far outweigh any potential risk.

It’s sounds like you are aware that your behaviors could effect your baby and that is good, at least you are not in denial! I would research synthetic marijuana and pregnancy to see possible problems, and I would also let your DR be aware of it for he might either be bale to put your mind at ease or tell you possible problems and things you can do to help prevent it. As for the cigarettes, I can’t help you there, I’m not a smoker but I wish you luck on that.

It’s good that you’ve stopped the K2 products. (i don’t know what that is) But, as for smoking cigarettes, it took me a little while to quit too when I found out I was pregnant. Keep trying to cut back and if you can’t quit on your own talk to your doctor. Most places offer a smoking sensation class or other types of therapy that can help you to quit for free! Chewing gum and eating small hard candy helped me. It’s all about will power! If you’ve cut back you can go it! Find someone else to quit with you! My husband has smoked too at the time and we quit together. Good luck and congrats!

My aunt smoked marijuana while she was pregnant with her 1st child, but she didn’t know she was pregnant until she was in labor. People always think “Oh that couldn’t happen to me, thats stuff you see on T.V” we always thought the samething until it did. Anyways, The baby came out to be very healthy she weighed 9lbs and 7 ounces and was 22in long.
With that being said, I am 10weeks 1 day pregnant and I smoke. My doctor also told me not to quit cold turkey because It could casue more harm to the baby then smoking. I have just cut back and I am trying to wing myself off. If you have smoked forever like i have, then Its not a easy thing to stop doing. You just have to try very hard. I wish you best of luck!

Hi,
Okay before you go into a panic remember that the stress over worrying can be damaging to the baby as well.
First the cigarettes:
I found out I was about 11 weeks along when I first found out and I was a serious smoker. My doctor said the same thing about not quitting cold turkey so I gradually tried to cut down but I still had one on occasion. My son had nothing wrong with him but I still don’t suggest smoking constantly.
The statistics found about smoking while pregnant are usually done on women that are smoking at least half a pack a day.
(I am definitely going to get thumbs down but I’m trying to be nice so everyone can just relax for two seconds)
I personally do not know what k2 is? But if it is like pot the only thing you can do at this point is to just stop which you said you did so good for you.
Talk to your doctor about what you said and they will give you an extra ultrasound but don’t stress yourself out the whole time.
-good luck
ps – if you need to ask any more questions feel free to email me I won’t bash you or anything.

well, you can think about whats already happened. all you can think about now is the future, and doing everything possible to fix the situation at hand. dont feel like you a bad mom, you didnt know. i didnt know i was pregnant for a month and i was heavily drinking and smoking weed and cigs, i mean once i found out i quit everything but i couldnt help but feel terrible. but now my daughter is 19 months and healthy and happy. now about still smoking butts, if you can do it yes obv. getting all together is tech your best choice, but even cutting done to 5 butts a day is a hell of a lot better than a pack you know? i would just try and smoke less and less as time goes on, u never know u might wake up one morning and not even think about smoking all day cause you cravings are different
anyways the main point is that your obgyn knows that you smoke, so they also know exactly what to monitor. and keep watch on. i wish you the best of luck in eventually quitting, i use to chew on lolipop sticks you can buy then in the craft/baking section. could luck! congrats!

It’s good that you are cutting out the K2. However, I’ve never used it and know next to nothing about it, so your doctor would really be the best to answer that one.
As for the cigarettes, I was in the same boat as you. I found out almost 3-4 months into my pregnancy and I was a smoker. I was told at that point, it was safest to cut down as much as I possibly could. If I could comfortably quit, than great. But if I couldn’t, trying to make myself quit would have put too much stress on the baby and I was risking miscarriage.
So I cut down as much as I possibly could, almost quit completely. I got myself down to one cigarette a day. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get rid of that last one.
Every day, cut out 1 or 2 cigarettes. Keep doing this every day until you can’t handle dropping anymore. Wait a few days and go back to cutting out 1 or 2 a day.

Seems like the only correct answer here is from “MEGG” so I would listen to her…… I too smoked during pregnancy and am trying to quit with this one. Cigarettes ARE the hardest thing to quit, and quitting cold turkey is the safest but not the easiest. You can also cut down. I attempted to cut down and got myself to 10 cigs a day (which is low for me) BUT now Im stuck at that…..Cold turkey is my next step on Saturday, I think you should try it too.
It will be hard but remember it’s for the baby and if you like it that much you can take it up after he/she is born.

My mother smoked when she was pregnant with me, my sister and my brother. She wasn’t a heavy smoker (about 1/2 pack per day), but we all have respiratory issues. A lot of the smoking women on here are saying their babies turned out fine. We seemed fine at first, too. Sometimes it’s difficult to assess lung problems early on when they’re not severe. It wouldn’t surprise me if those children have problems running or doing anything that requires laborious breathing when they get older.
I started smoking when I was a stupid teenager. I’m 33 now and 37w4d. The day I found out I was pregnant, I threw my cigarettes away and haven’t had one since. If I can do it, you can do it. It wasn’t even hard. What’s stopping you, besides a healthy baby?
EDIT: Thumbs down for the truth? whatever, idiot.
